Hi I’m Brenda Liang, I’m 16 years old, and I’m alive. But barely breathing. If you haven’t noticed from my lack of posting over the course of the past few weeks, I’ve taken a leave of absence,if you will, from blogging. Not because I hate you all, chill, ok? Simply because yes I’m barely breathing. I’ve been drowning in a pile of school work but it’s all ok! It’ll be worth it when I’m on SUMMER BREAK (!!!) in 18 days….after finals. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. But that’s beside the point, I pinky promise I’ll be posting new content up for you guys three times a week *happy kids sound effect* again once I emerge out of a pile of homework and study guides.
But I digress. Like any other student, I’m just way too excited for summer. I don’t know if it’s the godly weather or not having to wake up at 6:30 every morning to do the same thing everyday but my excitement is evident beyond words. In a few short days, I’ll be frolicking through music festivals and fairs with what I consider my summer fashion essentials.
Let’s get psyched together one necessity at a time.
T H E E S S E N T I A L S
The term “low-rise” is not in my vocabulary. If you ever see me strutting around in any sort of bottoms (besides bikinis!) sitting lower than my waist, you’re lucky; it’s a rare sight. High-waisted shorts are perfect to pair with crop tops, t-shirts, and basically anything else. They make your legs look miles long while keeping every tucked into the right places. These white Levis are so vintage-y and comfy!
One-pieces are all the rage right now. I would be turned-off by the fact that I wore these 24/7 when I was in third grade (AKA my “tomboy phase”) but there’s no other explanation for my newfound love and appreciation but that hey, my inner retro and 80s girl is coming out. While I’m still embarking on a journey filled with glorious one-pieces (riveting, right?), I’ve got two that I’m completely in love with and count as absolute must-haves. As a trendier approach, I love this Mikoh (Color is unavailable) one as it’s backless, cheeky, and has a cool water-print to it, and for the Can’t Buy Me Love inspired approach, I’m head over heels for this high-cut, low-side, backless, pin-stripe, tank-top styled suit from American Apparel.
Solid, Matching Bikinis
On the other hand, bikinis are still timeless, more than ever (is that a thing?). I’ve upgraded my bikini look from mismatched and random to perfectly matching solid suits. Once again, retro is my thing, especially when it comes to bathing suit styles so this basic yet bold matching red-coral suit from Victoria’s Secret is super reminiscent of the 80s, refer to Fast Times At Ridgemont High.
Since summer screams tank-tops, I always feel like my chest is so…bare. I always love to spruce things up with a necklace or two, or three, specifically with a choker. I’m obsessed, gotta say, I probably have….15? But chucking on a groovy choker with a more delicate necklace (or not) brings your outfit from 0 to 100, real quick. My favorites are these from Free People, Brooklyn Charm (Custom), and Etsy.
Like our bare chests, sometimes our wrists are deprived of some love. Did you know that 95% of women strip their wrists of accessories? Did you also know that the fact I just stated is not true? Besides, with tank-top and t-shirt season here and all, don’t you think we need to accessorize a bit with chic yet fun bracelets? I sure think so. These bracelets from Sashka are super cute and fun AND they are for a great cause. PLUS!, you can get 35% off by using my exclusive coupon code just. for. you (that’s how much I love you) which is: butimbrenda35. Yep, that’s right, 35% off your entire order. Did I mention there’s free shipping? Because there is.
YES. I AM OBSESSED WITH THE 90s, even though I was born in 2000. That’s what Clueless does to us youngsters though, no? Since my hair is at that awkward “I’m still growing my hair out from when I cut it to a lob” phase (you feel me?), I’m desperately looking for different hair accessories to distract everyone from my confusion regarding what to do with my hair next. Common problem, I know. But scrunchies have been basically all I’ve been wearing in my hair because they add a subtle yet unexpected touch of what was that? Oh yeah, the freaking 90s. I don’t know if you could tell from the five scrunchies I got from Etsy.
So basically I’m a sixteen year old chick who’s way too obsessed with 80s and 90s movies and summer.
